Former elementary school involved in late-night fire (10 photos)

A portion of the former St. Veronica’s elementary school building burned to the ground in the early hours of Sunday morning

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sault Fire Services were called to the 300 block of East Balfour Street for reports of heavy flames in the area.

At the scene, fire crews battled thick plumes of smoke and tall flames at the old St. Veronica elementary school.

Residents in the neighbourhood witnessing the blaze expressed their concerns with the situation as the former school had been involved in a suspicious fire back in 2018.

No injuries from the incident have been reported.

We will update this story when more information becomes available.
