Forest fire under control near Goulais River

Forest fire risk mostly high in Sault area

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is reporting one new forest fire in the northeastern region.

Sault Ste. Marie 3, located near Goulais River Provincial Park, is under control at 0.4 of a hectare.

Two other fires are burning in the region, Sudbury 5, located near Highway 69, is under control at 13 hectares and Bancroft 4, located near Highway 7 west of Skootamatta Lake, is being held at 6.6 hectares.

Today’s fire hazard ranges mostly from high to extreme in the southern and central portions of the region, while northern areas are showing a low to moderate hazard.

Around Sault Ste. Marie, the risk is mostly high, moving into the lower threshold north near Wawa.
