First baby of 2023 arrives on New Year’s Day (2 photos)

Arriving at 3:31 a.m., Aeron Marc Chio becomes Sault’s first baby of the new year; he’s welcomed by proud parents Angelourd and Mark Ron and older brother Alec

Parents Angelourd and Mark Ron are elated after welcoming their healthy baby boy Aeron Marc Chio to the world at 3:31 this morning at the Sault Area Hospital.

Weighing in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces and standing at 19 ½ inches tall, Aeron is officially the Sault’s New Year’s baby for 2023, which surprised the now mom of two.

“We’re very happy,” Angelourd says. “We definitely didn’t expect to have the first baby of the year.”

Originally from the Philippines, the Chios have lived in the Sault since 2021.

Angelourd works in accounting, while Mark Ron is an aircraft mechanic for Springer Aerospace.

The past two years have been full of life-changing events for the couple.

“We feel so blessed,” she says. “2022 was the year my husband and I got good jobs here in the Sault and got pregnant at the same time. We also got our Canadian citizenship last year. We’re very grateful.”

The Chios had just finished eating a late-night dinner when Angelourd’s water broke around 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Less than five hours later, Aeron was born.

Big brother Alec, who just turned three on Dec. 30, is excited to ring in the new year with his new baby brother.

“He’s very excited to be a big brother,” Angelourd says. “Yesterday he said, ‘see you soon baby brother.’”
