Firefighters called to Roberta Bondar Place. And Big Fun Party

The promotional material for last night's Bon Soo Big Fun Party promised relaxed, grown-up fun with drinks and dancing.

"What happens at the BFP, stays at the BFP!" the official program warned.

We hate to break the Big Fun Party rules, but there was a fire juggler inside the Machine Shop at the BFP.

There was a haze machine too.

The Machine Shop's fire alarms went off just after midnight, resulting in a full response from Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services trucks.

The fire alarm system had to be reset more than once because it kept being activated.

So the building was ventilated.

Government offices

Around 5:25 a.m. firefighters were also called to Roberta Bondar Place at 70 Foster Drive, where an electric fan malfunctioned, filling the fifth-floor hallways with smoke.

That's the same building that houses the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's provincial forest fire and emergency services management centre.

Trunk Road

Sault Fire Services were also called around 6:51 a.m. to extinguish a fire in a garbage hopper inside an industrial manufacturing building in the 1600 block of Trunk Road.

Firefighters had to break a window to access the premises.

A fire prevention officer is investigating the cause.
