The identity of the man who was killed in a west-end fire Sunday morning has been released by police.
Andrew O'Neil, age 51, died in the early morning fire at 603 Queen Street West.
O'Neill lived in a basement apartment there.
Another resident in the building, Dan Lajoie, said he tried to reach the victim in the basement but was driven back by thick black smoke.
Sault fire inspectors and the Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating.
Smoking is the prime suspected cause of the blaze.
