Fire on Terry Fox Place

A smoke alarm saved the life of an apartment tenant on Terry Fox Place this morning, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services says. The living room of a ground-floor apartment there was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after 6:15 a.m.

A smoke alarm saved the life of an apartment tenant on Terry Fox Place this morning, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services says.

The living room of a ground-floor apartment there was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after 6:15 a.m.

The sole occupant of the unit was awakened by the alarm and was able to escape and call 911.

Firefighters rescued three cats from the unit.

The fire was quickly extinguished but firefighters remain at the scene to clear heat from the remainder of the building.

Considerable smoke damage is reported to other apartments in the building.
