A fire last night caused extensive damage to an unoccupied Pardee Avenue home.

Sault Fire Services Platoon Chief Dave Lang tells SooToday.com that five trucks were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 p.m.

Flames on the second floor and roof were clearly visible when firefighters arrived.

They brought the situation under control in about 10 minutes.

Flames were contained to the upper level and roof, however, smoke damage extended to the ground floor.

Lang said that before crews arrived, a neighbour had entered the structure to ensure no one was in danger.

The man inhaled some smoke and experienced minor difficulties.

Assisted by paramedics, the good Samaritan was taken to Sault Area Hospital, where he was treated and released.

No cause of the fire was initially established.

Lang said there are no indications of suspicious circumstances.
