NEWS RELEASE

FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

************************ FBI in place and ready to tespond In response to Hurricane Gustav’s expected landfall along the Gulf States, the FBI’s field offices in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida have enacted their crisis response plans and will remain staffed with essential personnel.

Command posts to monitor the situation have been stood up at FBI headquarters and in the field offices.

These efforts are all part of the larger U.S. government response and in support of the Department of Homeland Security.

The FBI's role will be to work with other federal law enforcement partners and to support state and local law enforcement operations if requested.

Numerous command post vehicles have been pre-staged in critical areas, and FBI assets—including investigators, analysts, evidence response teams, hazardous material teams, and tactical teams—have been put on alert and are ready to respond and assist as appropriate.

In preparation, the FBI has also evacuated non-essential personnel and their families.

“We will continue to closely monitor this situation and any developments,” said Special Agent Richard Kolko, chief of the National Press Office.
