************************* Dr. David Suzuki celebrates National Aboriginal Day with Pic Mobert First Nation

PIC MOBERT, ON (May 10, 2011) - Pic Mobert First Nation is proud to announce its celebration events for National Aboriginal Day on June 21, 2011, at the Pic Mobert pow wow site on Hwy 17.

Dr. David Suzuki, award-winning scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster, will present a keynote address examining how traditional ecological knowledge and values possessed by Aboriginal people, can enlighten natural resource practices; safe drinking water; green energy projects and the role of Aboriginal people in protected areas.

In addition to Dr. David Suzuki’s presentation, the event will include live entertainment, food vendors and a fireworks show. Tickets are $35/person in advance, and are available from the following locations: - Pic Mobert band office: Jennifer Jacques, 807-822-2134

The event will take place rain or shine.

Pic Mobert First Nation - a small, Ojibway community of 385 members presently based on reserve - is located 53 km east of Marathon, Ontario and is situated on the beautiful White Lake.

White Lake and its river system and the surrounding area, are the ancestral territories of the people of Pic Mobert.

The traditional Ojibway name for Pic Mobert is, “Netamisagamik," which means “first lake from the big lake.” As this will be a green event, participants planning to purchase food and drinks are asked to bring their own reusable plate, cup and utensils to avoid the need for disposable dishes.

No plastic, cans, or paper allowed.

We also request that you bring a lawn chair.
