***************************** Failing to stop for conservation officer proves costly

Two Southern Ontario men have been fined $500 each after they failed to stop for a conservation officer.

Eugene Hluszkiw and Charles Millen, both of Stoney Creek, pleaded guilty to obstructing a conservation officer and failing to stop for a conservation officer respectively.

Court heard that on August 4, 2010, Hluszkiw and Millen failed to stop for a conservation officer while operating a boat on the Pickerel River.

When the officer was able to turn his boat around and signal to the driver to stop a second time, the driver ignored the signal and continued back to a campsite.

The officer identified the boat and followed Hluszkiw and Millen back to their campsite.

While the officer was dealing with Hluszkiw on a separate matter, Hluszkiw stated that he had told Millen not to stop the boat.

Justice of the Peace Lori-Ann Toulouse heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sudbury, on December 14.
