Nine representatives from Beijing Information Technical College (BITC) in Beijing, China got the full Sault College experience during a ten day visit to Sault Ste. Marie and Sault College. The guests, which included five electrical faculty, one math faculty, one mental health faculty, one communications faculty and one vice-principal, eagerly joined us on campus to study educational principles and techniques.

The training, offered through Sault College Corporate Training, provided the group with the opportunity to explore outcome-based education, including: instructional techniques, lesson planning, how to incorporate technology into the classroom, assessment techniques and quality assurance, during the first week. The group then spent four days observing courses within the College’s Electrical program to examine how the techniques learned in the training could be applied into the classroom setting.

The fun and learning expanded beyond the classroom and guests were able to enjoy some of Northern Ontario’s best with a tour of Lake Superior and Chippewa Falls and an exciting Greyhound game! Some were even able to make the trip to see the beauty of Niagara Falls. In true Canadian style, students who earned their certificate from the training also received a bottle of maple syrup!

“This particular training program was designed to accomplish specific goals identified by BITC,” said Lori Crosson, Director, Continuing Education and E-Learning, Sault College. “Sault College was eager to assist and develop a program that would give them both the theory behind and practical application of educational principles and techniques. It was a tremendous success and we were honoured to have the opportunity to host this great group.”

Sault College and BITC enjoy a collaborative partnership that has led to 15 students from BITC choosing to study here at the College. These students are currently studying in a variety of programs. “Sault College was proud to be able to offer this unique training opportunity to our guests from BITC. We look forward to fostering this partnership and further developing our strong professional relationship,” said Dr. Ron Common, President, Sault College.

This particular training was customized by the Corporate Training department with specific training needs in mind. Sault College’s Corporate Training department works with leaders in business and industry to enhance the skills of managers and employees to effectively meet and exceed the needs, priorities and challenges in today’s workplace. Our team will work with you to design and deliver your customized training at a time and location that works for your organization. Organizations interested in tailored training programs are encouraged to reach out to Lori Crosson at 705-759-2554 ext. 2442 or [email protected].
