************************* Homeowner makes arrest

Yesterday morning, City Police arrested a 17-year-old male and charged him with possession of stolen property, theft under $5,000, trespass by night and possession of a prohibited weapon.

It is alleged that at approximately 4:40 a.m., the accused broke into a vehicle in the 100 block of Essex Lane and was apprehended by the homeowner.

It is further alleged that when police searched the accused they found a prohibited weapon - a flick knife, several GPS units, an iPod and CDs.

The accused will be appearing in court on April 20 for one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of trespass by night, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

************************* Mischief

City Police received seven complaints of vehicle windows being broken overnight. Vehicles on the following streets were damaged:

- The 300 block of Bay Street – three vehicles.

- The 100 block of Florwin Drive.

- The 200 block of Queen Street.

- The 100 block of East Street.

- The 100 block of Bruce Street.

A bus shelter on Fourth Line East had several windows damaged.

A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Gore Street was damaged – antenna broken.

************************* Stolen vehicle

A 2007 silver and grey Kia Spectra was stolen from the YMCA at about 9 p.m. last evening. Anyone having seen any suspicious persons in or about the YMCA is asked to call the City Police at 949-6300.

************************* Thefts

Vehicles were entered in the following locations:

- The 100 block of Heath Road – GPS unit taken.

- The 600 block of McDonald Avenue – purse stolen.

- The 600 block of Queen Street East – purse stolen.

A bicycle was stolen from the 100 block of Burton Street.

The City Police are asking for the public’s assistance in reducing these crimes by calling the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service or Crime Stoppers if anyone sees any suspicious activity.

************************* Break and enters

- An apartment in the 700 block of Pine Street was entered. Unknown if anything was taken.

- The Canadian Tire Garden Centre shed at 200 McNabb Street was entered. Tools were stolen.
