Despite reduced steel production around the world, work continues on a Minnesota Iron Range project deemed "critical" to the future of Essar Steel Algoma Inc.

According to an article in BusinessNorth.com, it’s full steam ahead for the $1.7 billion Essar Steel Minnesota mining-to-steel venture at Nashwauk, Minnesota.

The operation will eventually produce taconite pellets and steel slabs for shipment to Essar Steel Algoma.

Uncertainty about the Minnesota project's status has surfaced in recent weeks.
