Do you have dreams of starting a business, or expanding a current one, and wonder what funding or support is out there to help?

The City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Economic Development department will host a free Funding Forum on April 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. that promises to provide some answers.

The forum, taking place at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront, is designed for companies, industry and community partners to explore funding and financing options in the Sault, the city said in a release.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with representatives to learn about funding and financing programs that may suit their organization’s needs.

The city said the following will be taking part:

  • Business Development Bank of Canada
  • Millworks - Centre for Entrepreneurship
  • Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre
  • Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce
  • Community Development Corp. of Sault Ste. Marie & Area
  • Northern Ontario Heritage Fund
  • FedNor
  • City of Sault Ste. Marie (Invest SSM and Tourism SSM)
  • Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada
  • Northern Ontario Angels

"The Invest SSM Funding Forum represents a convergence of community leaders, entrepreneurs, stakeholders, business owners, and crucial economic development partners,” said Graham Atkinson, manager of business development.

"It serves as an important platform, facilitating invaluable connections and providing insight into the array of support and funding options accessible to our entrepreneurs and business owners.

“If you’re considering starting a business or have your sights on a growth or expansion project but are unsure of what funding or support options are available, we encourage you to register and attend as first step in your process. Meeting the exhibitors will provide you with ground level knowledge on where to go next.”

Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. Participants will also have a chance to win some giveaways.
