The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) is proud to announce the launch of a regional branding initiative, positioning Sault Ste. Marie as an Energy Innovation Hub. 

As part of the Smart Energy Strategy, a collaborative community effort involving the Destiny SSM Energy Committee and a number of community stakeholders, this new campaign is poised to propel the image of Sault Ste. Marie as an evolutionary energy community with a prosperous and sustainable future. 
 
Developed by SSMIC’s Smart Energy Division in partnership with community representatives, the new campaign positions the Sault as a formidable leader in smart energy and the green economy.
 
This promotional initiative includes a website, video, print media, and an Energy- focused conference. 

“This promotional campaign will provide an opportunity to showcase our city as a global leader in renewable and smart energy”, said Jason Naccarato, Vice President of Development, SSMIC, who is leading the branding initiative. “This is an opportunity for outreach and to attract new business ventures and projects to our region in all phases of development.  Ultimately, the goal is to help bring jobs, funding and economic growth opportunities to Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario, which local businesses are surely to benefit from” he added.
 
The Sault Ste. Marie Energy Innovation Hub website www.saultenergy.com tells the success story behind Sault Ste. Marie’s Smart Energy Strategy and achievements, showcasing smart energy assets and resources in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma Region. 

The website recognizes local partners and the energy companies which have contributed to the success and leadership position in energy innovation achieved here in the region.
 
The video promotes the competitive advantages of doing business in Northern Ontario and assists in economic growth and development initiatives that will create new employment and investment, and advance economic vibrancy for our community and Northern Ontario.

Both the website and the video will reach a wide audience across Canada and in the global energy marketplace, creating awareness of the impressive energy landscape in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma Region. 
 
The 2014 Energy Opportunities Conference: from Concept to Implementation is taking place November 4-6, 2014 in Sault Ste. Marie at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn & Suites.

This conference is being hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre, in partnership with a number of community stakeholders.  

At the 2014 Energy Opportunities Conference, industry professionals from the energy sector, government representatives and community leaders will convene to learn and collaborate on energy Initiatives in Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario.
 
The conference will focus on:

  • Making Energy Innovation Happen;
  • Project Execution;
  • Commercialization;
  • Smart Energy; and,
  • New Technology.

Industry experts and speakers have already been confirmed and the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is continuing to actively seek speakers. 

Confirmed speakers include, but are not limited to; Nick Parker from Global Acceleration Partners, Daniel Kaute from Environmental Waste International, Karen Bird from Batchewana First Nation, Bill Wong from Leidos Canada, and Glen Martin from Energizing Co. 

Speakers will discuss Energy Opportunities from a local, National and International perspective. 

This conference will showcase the unique energy assets and support in Sault Ste. Marie and will be appealing for communities and Economic Development professionals who are interested in adopting some of the successful practices which have already been implemented in Sault Ste. Marie.
 
Attendees of the conference will have the opportunity to participate in Energy Sector industry tours around Sault Ste. Marie, and sponsorship opportunities are available for companies interested in reaching a large market of customers in one concentrated location.
