As another winter storm warning went into effect, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation was warning that its main road information number will not be available for the duration of the OPSEU strike.

Instead, motorists were asked to phone the following regional numbers, where the ministry says road closure and condition information will be available on a limited basis:

- Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, 1-800-465-5032

- North Bay, Sudbury, New Liskeard, Cochrane, Hearst, 1-800-461-9523

- Windsor, London, Kitchener, Barrie and Owen Sound areas, 1-800-265-5407 - Greater Toronto Area: 1-800-268-4686

- Peterborough, Kingston and Ottawa areas: 1-877-401-8777

Strike delays possible

The ministry has promised to make every effort to clear roads quickly, but warned that the job could taker longer than usual during the strike.

Winter maintenance services are provided by ministry-hired private contractors.

"Depending on location, road patrolling will continue to be performed by private contractors or by emergency service workers under an essential services agreement reached between Management Board Secretariat and OPSEU," the ministry said.

Winter storm warning

Environment Canada is warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are either imminent or already occurring in Algoma and other parts of Northeastern Ontario.

As much as 20 centimetres of snow could fall on Friday. The snow could change to ice pellets or freezing rain in some areas, and whiteouts from strong northeast winds are possible today.

Forecast

Here's the latest forecast, issued Friday morning Today - Periods of snow and blowing snow. Brisk northeast wind 30 km/h with gusts to 50 km/h becoming north this afternoon. High minus 2.

Tonight - Snow ending this evening then cloudy with 30 percent chance of flurries. Clearing overnight. Total accumulation 10 to 20 cm. Brisk north wind 30 km/h diminishing. Low minus 13.

Saturday - Sunny. High minus 2.
