The City of Elliot Lake shared this photo of staff getting ready to vote for Kraft Hockeyville 2024. Voting is open from 9 a.m. on Friday, March 29 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

Our northern neighbour is in the running to be crowned this year's Kraft Hockeyville — and Elliot Lake needs your help to net the win.

The 32-hour voting window for the competition opens today at 9 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

Launched nearly two decades ago, the annual competition has awarded millions of dollars to help fund upgrades to community arena across the country.

Winners are also given the opportunity to host a pre-season NHL game (if the arena meets all the requirements of the league and the players' association).

Earlier this month, Elliot Lake's aging Centennial Arena was selected as one of the four finalists for the $250,000 grand prize — the only rink in Ontario still in the running.

Built in the 1960s, the arena was closed last September after an inspection revealed structural concerns, forcing local teams to travel out of town for ice times.

Elliot Lake has its eye on the first-place prize money to help replace Centennial Arena.

Here's what you need to know in order to vote:

  • It's open to legal residents of Canada 14 years and older
  • Cast your vote online at KraftHockeyville.ca
  • You can vote as many times as you want

The results will be announced during Saturday's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast after the first period.
