The province and city have signed a community adjustment agreement to help develop and implement a long-term recovery plan for local retailers, service employers and their workers, a government release notes.

The one-year agreement provides $264,050 and was effective as of July 9, 2012.

Community adjustment occurs when a larger workplace closes or when layoffs have broader, more adverse effects on a local economy.

"Working together with the Ontario government, we'll help employers and workers who lost their places of work because of the collapse of the Algo Centre Mall rebuild," said Elliot Lake Mayor Rick Hamilton.
