The Sault Ste. Marie Electricity Coalition is planning to lobby local business owners to make sure they're aware of the effects of hydro privatization on their bottom lines.

About 80 people showed up at a coalition meeting Monday night at the Steelworkers Union Hall, organizer Gary Premo said.

Of those, 40 or 50 indicated a willingness to become further involved in the issue.

Local businesses will be targeted to "make them aware of what's happening, if they aren't already aware," Premo told SooToday News.

Premo, who's also a SooToday.com editorialist, said that a further meeting is planned for 5 p.m. on March 21 at the same location.

Earlier Monday, Premo said he and an MCTV videographer were ordered by management of Great Lakes Power Ltd. to terminate an interview in the company's parking lot and leave the premises immediately.

The Sault Ste. Marie Electricity Coalition is trying to stop Ontario's plan for deregulation and privatization of its electrical system, scheduled to happen on May 1.
