************************* Batchewana Band office break and enter

BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON - Investigation into the break and enter to the Batchewana Band Office on October 11, 2007, has resulted in the arrest of one male.

The investigation conducted by the Batchewana First Nation Police, the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Crime Unit, the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has resulted in the arrest of Ronald John Joseph Marini, 45 years-old, of Searchmont, Ontario.

Marini was arrested this morning and charged with one count of break and enter and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

Marini is in custody and will be held for a bail hearing tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

On October 11, 2007, the Batchewana Band office located on Frontenac Street on the Rankin Reserve was broken into.

A safe was stolen that contained records of the Batchewana First Nation including cash, cheques, loan agreements, visa cards, vouchers and other documents.

Cash and cheques stolen were not recovered.
