It's official!

Bart Stupak is not running for governor of the State of Michigan.

He doesn't want Senator Carl Levin's job.

And he's not considering a career switch to Washington's lucrative lobbyist slop-trough.

At least, not anytime soon.

"I'm not running for anything," the Upper Peninsula Democratic Congressman told a town hall meeting last night in the Michigan Soo.

"I like my job [as U.P. congressman and chairman of the House Oversight and Investigation Subcomittee] .... I'm running for re-election," he said.

Stupak said he's constantly being dogged by such rumours.

Last week, he officially endorsed John Edwards' presidential campaign.

This week, eight Democratic presidential candidates held their first debate of the 2008 campaign.

Stupak said his favourite part of that debate was when the always-loquacious Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. somehow managed to answer a question with a single word.

"Yes," Senator Biden said, in a breathtaking display of self-control that mightily impressed both supporters and opponents.

We can't remember what the question was, though.
