Early morning fire damages house on Old Goulais Bay Road (3 photos)

A cat was rescued from the basement by firefighters

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a call of a house fire on Old Goulais Bay Road early this morning, said platoon chief Damon Ferris.

The fire was quickly extinguished upon arrival of firefighters, said Ferris.

The 911 call came in at 8:57 a.m. from workers doing construction nearby. 

Ferris said no one was home at the time of the fire, but firefighters were able to rescue a cat from the basement of the structure.

The scene is currently under investigation.
