An Elliot Lake man is facing charges, including impaired driving, after a crash in his own driveway.

Ontario Provincial Police say they received a complaint about a “known driver revving their car engine who was believed to be impaired” on Gillanders Road in Elliot Lake.

“The vehicle was later located after the driver crashed into a pick-up truck in their own driveway,” OPP said in a news release.

Officers arrested a suspect at around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

They say he was uncooperative and refused to provide a breath sample.

Joseph Hewlett, 38, of Elliot Lake is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Failure of refusal to comply with demand
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Fail to remain

The accused is scheduled to appear in an Elliot Lake court on March 14.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Hewlett is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
