************************* Nine arrests resulting from execution of drug search warrant

Yesterday at approximately 4:45 p.m., members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service street team, patrol services, and the Ontario Provincial Police canine unit, executed a search warrant at 320 Goulais Avenue, the residence of 18 year-old Brandon Collins.

During the course of the search, officers located 15.7 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of cannabis marijuana, approximately 1 gram of cannabis resin, 2.4 grams of psilocybin (magic mushrooms), and a small marijuana grow operation (four plants).

Further, officers located two digital scales, cutting agents, grow-op materials (lights, fertilizers, pots, reflective sheeting etc), a can of bear mace (oleoresin capsicum), a small amount of cash, two cellular phones and various drug paraphernalia.

As a result, nine persons (six adults and three young persons) were arrested and charged with various offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Criminal Code of Canada.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $5,900.

Adults arrested and charged - all appearing in court on June 19:

- Eighteen-year-old Brandon Collins of 320 Goulais Avenue charged with four counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of production of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

- Eighteen-year-old Bradley Lato of 312 Dryden Avenue charged with four counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of production of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

- Nineteen-year-old Albert Lewis of 320 Goulais Avenue charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

- Twenty-one-year-old Jamie Odorizzi of 329 Parkland Crescent charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

- Twenty-two-year-old Amanda Boyle of $-240 Albert Street West charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

- Twenty-four-year-old Ashley Hansford (female) of #6-110 Wilding Avenue charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon and one count of breach of a release document.

Youths arrested and charged – all appearing in court on June 23

- Seventeen-year-old male youth charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

- Seventeen-year-old male youth charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon and one count of breach of probation.

- Seventeen-year-old male youth charged with four counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of production of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon and one count of breach of probation.

************************* Constable Don Doucet memorial charity scholarship basketball game

SAULT STE. MARIE - On Tuesday the 26th of May 2009, members of our local Police Services, including the Anishinabek Police Service, the OPP and The Sault Ste Marie Police Service will be playing in a charity basketball game against teachers from our local high schools to raise money for the Don Doucet Memorial Scholarship Fund.

It will take place at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s College on Wellington Street East.

The cost of admittance for adults is $3 and $2 for children.

The game is sponsored by Soo Promo.
