************************* State Police investigate drowning
SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - (May 30) - Troopers from the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post, assisted by the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, were dispatched to the scene of a drowning that occurred in a Dafter Township Lake around 3:45 p.m. today.
Witnesses reported a man swimming in the lake went underwater and did not surface.
Responding officers and witnesses at the scene searched for the man.
He was located in the water a short time later.
The downstate man was transported to War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim's name is not being released at this time.
