Complaints about paving company lead to investigation

MANITOULIN ISLAND, ON – Manitoulin OPP is presently investigating fraud complaints from residents of Manitoulin that had work done from a paving company.

The company reported as WBP Inc. based out of London, Ontario was on Manitoulin Island in late June and early July approaching many homes and businesses to have paving done.

Investigation has revealed that the prices quoted for work completed varied extensively from client to client.

Upon trying to contact the company there is no answer on the phone number left behind and a check of receipts left no personal information as to names etc. of the workers involved.

Paving that has now been completed is being checked to see the quality of work involved.

Anyone that has had contact or is concerned is asked to call the OPP who are presently investigating the company.

It is believed that the company has left the island and is heading to Wawa or Thunder Bay area.

Constable Allan Boyd, community services officer for the Manitoulin OPP, advises that the public need to be aware that when companies knock on your door offering a service, it is up to the buyer to be on the alert.

People should be checking references and make sure the contact information is secure.

You should be concerned if the company only asks for cash and has no other payment methods.

Police are asking the public to contact police with any complaints or concerns with this incident.
