Driverless truck ends up in river

Shortly after 6 last evening, a half-ton truck with nobody in it somehow became airborne and landed in the St. Marys River about 50 feet (15 metres) from shore. Sault Ste.

Shortly after 6 last evening, a half-ton truck with nobody in it somehow became airborne and landed in the St. Marys River about 50 feet (15 metres) from shore.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services was called to the scene, where the vehicle became submerged in 16 feet (five metres) of water near the east end of the canal.

Sault Search and Rescue personnel were also on hand in case divers might be needed.

No injuries appear to have resulted from the unusual incident.

City Police could provide no additional details when contacted around noon.

It's believed efforts will be made to retrieve the truck today.
