'Dream come true': This lucky football fan won Korah's annual Super Bowl trip

This year's raffle was the school's largest ever, raising more than $51K

David Vilaca will be off to see Super Bowl LVIII in person at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.

The Sault man and his wife will be attending the event after his ticket was picked in Korah Collegiate’s annual Super Bowl draw Friday, Jan. 19.

“It’s awesome. It’s a dream come true to go to the Super Bowl,” said Vilaca, a San Francisco 49ers fan, speaking to SooToday on Monday.

“This year a total of 4,713 tickets were sold, which amounts to a profit of approximately $51,100 after expenses. That brings the 14-year total to over $330,000 and the highest amount earned in our Korah Super Bowl Draw history. Korah wishes to thank everyone in the community who made this year’s raffle such a huge success,” wrote Tony Schoahs, Korah Collegiate vice principal in an email to SooToday.

All proceeds raised from the Korah Parent-Teacher Association Super Bowl Raffle will be used to support student activities eligible under the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Rules.

“Korah students, parents, staff and supporters diligently sold tickets over the last four months as sales must cover the cost of the Super Bowl prize package before funds can be saved for the students. Many local businesses have been active sales volunteers for years. The draw event included fun student football challenges, live music and a rowdy crowd,” Schoahs wrote.

The prize package includes two round trip airfare tickets to Las Vegas from the Sault, a five-night stay at a four-star Las Vegas hotel and more, valued at $29,500.

The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs will play in the AFC championship game while the San Francisco 49ers will play the Detroit Lions in the NFC championship game, both games to be held Sunday Jan. 28.

The winning teams of those games will go head to head in Super Bowl LVIII Sunday, Feb. 11.
