CANADIAN BUSHPLANE HERITAGE CENTRE
Dr. Ron Common has accepted the position as the president of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre Board of Directors for 2014.
Dr. Common was elected when the Board met on December 17.
The current President of Sault College, Dr. Common has been a bushplane board member for several years.
He takes over from Hugh MacDonald, a Sault Ste Marie lawyer. MacDonald has held the post for the past four years and will remain on the Board and the Executive Committee.
"The bushplane centre is an important part of our tourism industry and a much needed preserve of heritage aircraft. As a long time aviator, I am proud to serve as president and want to help the centre expand its offerings to achieve greater success," Common stated.
Five new directors were also elected to the bushplane centre board.
They are Bill Malpass, Tony Fasulo, Michael Moraca, Robert Elliott and Lorne Carter.
They join current directors Mark Barsanti, Theresa Cassan, Kim Park, Bruce Caughill and Richard Walker.
The year 2014 will mark the 25th anniversary of the bushplane centre and events are being planned to celebrate the milestone.
"We especially appreciate the support we have received from the community, many donors such as the Rotary Club and Union Gas and our very talented volunteer group," said bushplane centre Executive Director Mike Delfre.
The bushplane centre is rapidly becoming the major family-oriented entertainment and learning centre in our community which is a testament to the aviation and forest protection pioneers we honour in our exhibits and displays.
Being voted the Saults number-one attraction by Travelocity in 2012 certainly helped put us on the map.
