NEWS RELEASE

DR. CURTIS COLLINS

************************* The Art Gallery of Algoma’s Director Dr. Curtis Collins has announced his resignation effective November 27 as he leaves to take a new position as director of the Dunlop Art Gallery in Regina.

Over the course of Dr. Collins’ tenure the gallery has undergone a major transformation of its exhibitions spaces and programming vision.

The AGA now features three display areas of the highest quality in Northern Ontario with new exhibitions of artists from throughout the Algoma region and across Canada every 10 weeks.

Other programming innovations that Dr. Collins introduced were Canada Day @ the AG(eh!) with DJs spinning music on the Gallery’s rooftop and a multitude of children’s activities.

The gallery’s new Minutia Café features indoor and outdoor seating along the Saint Mary’s River with the musical comedy antics of the Action Riot Guild (ARG!) every Saturday.

Collins states: “My time as the AGA has been very invigorating and I am indebted to the hard working staff here, as well as the local artistic community that have delivered new life to this institution.”

Dr. Collins last official event at the AGA will be the Auction & Loan Gala on Saturday, November 27 at 7 p.m.

For tickets call (705) 949-9067.
