LAIRD FAIR

*************************
The 2017 Laird Fair is preparing to stage its annual three-day fair, which begins Friday, Aug. 18, at the Laird Fairgrounds on Lake George Road, about 25 minutes east of Sault Ste. Marie.

North Shore Agricultural Society (NSAS) organizers promote agriculture yearly at the fair, and this event provides urban residents with opportunities to get a taste of country life in several ways, including through horse shows, animal exhibits and demonstrations.

Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday with registration for the kids speed show that will kick off at 6 p.m.

The Ride and Summer Thunder will also be providing a full night of entertainment full of high energy and solid country/country rock music in the Budweiser Bandstand running from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m.

A free bus ride home will be available for concert goers both Friday night and Saturday night at 1 a.m. The bus will travel between Desbarats and Sault Ste. Marie.

Check out the Laird Fair Facebook page for more specific information.

Saturday afternoon will feature several events including a horseshoe tournament starting at 1 p.m., and the start of the softball tournament that will take place throughout the day.

Teams of up to 14 players are invited to register for this tournament by contacting [email protected]. Cost is $250/team.

Other activities planned for Saturday include speed shows, pleasure and halter show, tractor pulls, chicken and rabbit competitions, indoor exhibits and various activities for the kids including bouncy castles, face painting, yard games, and Cindy Cook and Apoot, to name just a few.

Morgan Steele and ACR will provide musical entertainment throughout Saturday afternoon.

Our chicken dinner proudly sponsored by Muio's, begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, with more entertainment scheduled for later that night provided by The Cloud Bandits, Bar River’s No.1 rock band for over 18 years, set to light it up all night long in the Budweiser Bandstand.

Activities continue Sunday with the return of the Laird Fair extreme ranch horse competition, a heavy horse pull, and more fun activities for the kids, among other events are also planned for the day, with The Rusty Horseshoes and A Band Named "Soo" closing out the weekend's entertainment Sunday afternoon in the Budweiser Bandstand.

A variety of outdoor vendors will be on-site all weekend long serving up delicious goodies, as well as showcasing their unique products for all to see. Camping is available for the weekend, for those wanting to stay on the grounds in either a tent or a trailer.

Admission for the weekend is $5/day or $10 for a weekend pass; kids under 12 will be admitted for $2 or with a canned good that will be donated to a local food bank.

Volunteers are needed for this weekend long event; please let us know if you’d be interested in making the annual fair and exhibition better every year!
