NEWS RELEASE

ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE

**************************
SUDBURY - The Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind the motoring public that road closure gates have recently been erected at several keypoints along the Highway 17 and 69 corridor, mainly at entry or exit ramps.

Whether it be severe weather, a serious collision or, to some degree, construction, the gates are in place to block traffic when required.

The gates, long enough to span the width of the ramps, are waist high and made of steel.

To close they need to be swung shut.

The OPP is advising that failure to obey the closed gates is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and motorists can expect an offence notice of $110 for Drive on Closed Highway contrary to section 134(3) of the HTA.
