Don Adams dies, star of Get Smart and Inspector Gadget

Don Adams, who played the bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart in the popular 1960s television comedy spoof Get Smart , has died of a lung infection at the age of 82.

Don Adams, who played the bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart in the popular 1960s television comedy spoof Get Smart, has died of a lung infection at the age of 82.

Adams was also the voice of Gadget in the Inspector Gadget cartoons, loosely based on his earlier Maxwell Smart Agent 86 character.

He passed away last night at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Two of Maxwell Smart's expressions - "Would you believe?" and "Sorry about that, chief" - became international catchphrases.
