Actress Dixie Carter, best known for playing the delightfully sassy women's rights champion Julia Sugarbaker in the TV sitcom Designing Women, has died.
She was nominated for an Emmy for a 2007 guest appearance on Desperate Housewives.
Carter, shown with husband Hal Holbrook, was 70.
Cause of her death was not immediately known.
In real life, Carter was a Republican who disagreed with many of the opinions expressed by her liberal character Sugarbaker.
