****************************** Disturbance results in charges

CHAPLEAU - On September 12 at 2:20 a.m. Superior East OPP in Chapleau were patrolling near the Royal Canadian Legion on Young Street.

The officers observed a group exiting the Legion who began yelling obscenities at police.

Police approached the group and initially warned them to stop yelling and leave the area.

The group refused to comply and as a result officers placed one male under arrest for [allegedly] being intoxicated.

The male, assisted by three other males, began to resist the officers and as a result one officer was assaulted and the group obstructed police as they attempted to place the first male under arrest.

As a result the four males had to be forcibly restrained.

Damage was also done to one of the police cruisers during this incident.

The following charges have now been laid:

- Ethan Cooke, age 21 of Chapleau, has been charged with the following Criminal Code charges; assault a peace officer, mischief under $5,000, assault with intent to resist arrest. A Liquor Licence Act charge of being intoxicated in a public place was also laid.

- Anthony Houle, age 22 of Gallagher, has been charged with obstruct peace officer (Criminal Code of Canada), and being intoxicated in a public place (Liquor Licence Act of Ontario).

- Steven Cooke, age 23 of Chapleau, has been charged with obstruct peace officer (Criminal Code of Canada).

- Taylor Edwards, age 21 of Chapleau, stands charged with obstruct peace officer (Criminal Code of Canada).

They will appear in Chapleau Criminal Court on October 27 to answer to the charges.
