Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie to appoint new Bishop

THE DIOCESE OF SAULT STE. MARIE

The Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie announces the following:

His Holiness Pope Francis:

• has made the provision to amalgamate the Archdiocese of Ottawa and the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall into one ecclesiastical circumscription and to create the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall;
• has appointed the Most Reverend Terrence Prendergast, S.J., currently Archbishop of Ottawa and Bishop of Alexandria-Cornwall, as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall
• has appointed the Most Reverend Marcel Damphousse, currently Bishop of Sault Ste. Marie, as Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall

The Most Reverend Marcel Damphousse will begin his new position on June 16, 2020. A new Bishop for the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie has not yet been appointed.
