McGuinty government helps build safe, secure and accessible community agencies

SAULT STE. MARIE - The McGuinty government is investing $22,500 in Sault Ste. Marie for local agencies who are providing social services to people in our community, David Orazietti MPP announced today.

“Improving the safety and accessibility of social service agencies is a high priority,” said Orazietti. “This investment will help our local agencies provide better services to the people in our community who need them most.”

These funds are part of a $3.2-million province-wide investment to improve accessibility, safety and security in community social service agencies.

This investment will help agencies upgrade their facilities and serve more people.

In Sault Ste. Marie, funding is being distributed as follows:

- $5,000, Women in Crisis (Algoma) Inc. - $17,500 Community Living Algoma

This funding will allow these agencies to keep their facilities in good condition for those who need them, and will help cover the costs of important upgrades, building improvements and renovations such as building fire escapes, wheelchair ramps and roof repairs.

“We appreciate the capital resources provided by the provincial government through the Partnership Facility Renewal Fund. The funding has been utilized for replacing roofs on three homes where people with development disabilities reside,” said John Policicchio, chief executive officer, Community Living Algoma.

“Women In Crisis (Algoma) Inc., is very appreciative of the financial support of the Ministry. With the construction of the new wheelchair ramp, we are better able to serve women with special needs," said Dale Kenney, director, Women in Crisis (Algoma) Inc.

“Community agencies provide essential services and must reflect the needs of all those in our community. That’s why it’s so important that these agencies are safe, secure and accessible to everyone,” said Minister of Community and Social Services Madeleine Meilleur.
