Frank D'Angelo, who got our new arena named the Steelback Centre in exchange for a promise of money that mostly never materialized, was found not guilty today of sexual assault.

"Justice was served in this great country," the former brewery president told reporters after today's decision by Ontario Superior Court Justice John Hamilton.

Hamilton said that he was inclined to believe both D'Angelo and a 22-year-old woman who said he forced himself on her in June 2007 in a hotel room after the two ate lunch at a Holiday Inn restaurant near Toronto's Yorkdale shopping mall.

D'Angelo conceded that he had sex with the woman, but said she initiated and wanted it.

The judge found both witnesses to be credible.

But he ruled that the Crown didn't prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
