SAULT STE. MARIE - (March 4) - Ontario is improving the learning environment for students at Algoma University College with a $200,000 investment to upgrade existing classrooms and facilities while expanding the college's wireless network David Orazietti, MPP announced today.

"We recognize that today's students will build Ontario's future and it is important to prepare them for success in our increasingly knowledge-based economy," said Orazietti. "As we continue to create more jobs, our government's investment in new classroom equipment at Algoma University College is helping to ensure that students in Sault Ste. Marie are prepared to succeed."

The funding is part of the $1.4-billion investment in strategic infrastructure announced in the Fall Economic Statement which is designed to make Ontario's economy more competitive and stimulate job creation and growth across the province.

The investment in strategic infrastructure also included funding for campus renewal projects.

Algoma College is receiving more than $363,000 to improve energy efficiency and campus safety and carry out a variety of infrastructure renewal projects.

"Technology expands the resources available to students, and we are delighted that this grant will enable us to bring wireless service to the whole campus to facilitate student access to information," said Dr. Celia Ross, president, Algoma University College.

"The government's support is most welcome as we ensure that classroom equipment remains state-of-the-art, and we will be adding items like smart boards with interactive touch displays for student and faculty use," Ross said.

"We're boosting Ontario's competitiveness by building knowledge and skills," said John Milloy, minister of training, colleges and universities. "By expanding access to modern teaching facilities in Sault Ste. Marie, we are taking a major step to improving the long-term quality of post-secondary education in the North, while providing jobs in the short-term."

McGuinty government invests in facilities at Hearst College

TORONTO - (March 4) Ontario will invest $50,000 to upgrade campus facilities at Hearst College.

Hearst College will use these funds to improve safety and security equipment, including upgrades to security lighting, signage and alarm systems.

Hearst is also receiving over $250,000 under campus renewal to improve energy efficiency and campus safety.

The funding is part of the $1.4-billion investment in strategic infrastructure announced in the Fall Economic Statement which is aimed at:

- Making Ontario's economy more competitive.

- Stimulating job creation and growth across the province.

"We're ensuring that our students have a safe and effective learning environment so they can focus on their studies and preparing for future careers," said Training, Colleges and Universities Minister John Milloy.

"Improved facilities will help Hearst College maintain the highest quality of education for Northern Ontario's francophone students," said Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP David Ramsay.

The government's Fall Economic Statement announced a $1.4-billion investment in strategic infrastructure to encourage economic activity, create short-term jobs, help municipalities and enhance Ontario's competitiveness.

At Hearst College, Ontario is investing $50,000 to improve safety and security equipment, including upgrades to security lighting, signage and alarm systems.

Students will benefit from access to a safer, more up-to-date learning environment that will allow them to focus more on their studies, and preparing for future careers.

The Fall Economic Statement also included $200 million in funding for campus renewal projects that improve energy efficiency and campus safety and a variety of infrastructure renewal projects.

Hearst College is receiving over $250,000 under campus renewal.

Including today's announcement and campus renewal funding, Hearst College has received more than $1.5 million from the Ontario Government to support capital projects since 2003-04.
