NEWS RELEASE FROM SAULT MPP DAVID ORAZIETTI

************************** Orazietti helps Sault Ste. Marie residents get active

Participation in sport and recreation vital to health of Ontarians

Sault Ste Marie - The Provincial Government is helping residents in Sault Ste. Marie become more active by investing a $36,241 in five programs to improve sport and recreation opportunities, David Orazietti, MPP for Sault Ste. Marie, announced today.

"Our government is committed to protecting the health of the people of Sault Ste. Marie," said Orazietti.

"Unlike the previous government we are making a serious effort to help ensure that as many people as possible in the province have an opportunity to participate in sport and recreational activities in their community."

Through the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation's two grant programs: the Recreation Development Fund and the Community Sport Opportunity Fund, the Ontario government has invested in recreation initiatives across the province to increase opportunities for people to participate in physical activities, and enjoy the benefits of a higher quality of life and better personal health.

In Sault Ste. Marie, the Canadian Mental Health Association will receive $14,000 to help increase participation in sport and physical activities for youth with mental disabilities.

The Sault Recreation Hockey Association will receive $5,583 to help increase participation in hockey and ringette through the purchase of goalie equipment.

The Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club will receive $6,800 to help support a partnership with the Ontario Special Olympics.

The Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen will receive $2,359 to help support recreational opportunities at an after school program for children from low-income families and the Sault Cycling Club will receive $7,500 to promote cycling and help host a rally and develop a route map for the area.
