The Sault’s Cruz Cab taxi company will be ceasing operations at the end of the week, but Cruz Deliveries will continue.

“The cab side is shutting down but not the delivery side,” said Chuck Lewis, Cruz owner, speaking to SooToday Tuesday.

Lewis said Cruz Cab Company operations will shut down Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.

Lewis did not provide details as to the decision to close the Cruz taxi service.

Lewis said 18 cab drivers will be laid off as a result.

“I’ve given everybody as much notice as I can and they’ll all have their pay cheques in hand by next payroll...it’s a hard time for everybody here.”

“We have no school contracts, and our contracts that we do have are private and confidential, and they all have been told so they can make arrangements to take care of themselves. I gave them as much notice as I could,” Lewis added.

“Nothing’s changing (with Cruz Deliveries). Everything’s going to run as is, still the same.”
