Albert Ouimet's double-murder trial started today, with the Crown rejecting rejecting Ouimet's attempt to plead guilty to manslaughter in the 2006 slayings of 40-year-old Melody Burtis and her eight-year-old son Harley Baxter-Burtis.

Superior Court Justice Frank Caputo said the trial would go to a jury.

By mid-morning, 66 prospective jurors had been rejected from a panel of 200.

The chosen 12 will begin hearing the case tomorrow.

The trial is expected to last about three weeks.

Albert Ouimet will also be tried on two charges of first-degree murder, to which he pleaded not guilty today.

The bodies of Melody Burtis and her son were discovered on April 20, 2006, just after 4 a.m. in a vehicle in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Officers arrested 33-year-old Albert Ouimet in the cemetery as well.
