Sandro's Family Restaurant at 465 Trunk Road was forced to close last night when a vehicle plowed into the front windows, spraying the interior with shattered glass.

The family eatery, beloved for its penne peppernata and Italian egg rolls, is not expected to re-open for at least a week and a half, co-owner Rick Mariotti tells SooToday.com.

"Both front windows blew in. She almost came right through," says Mariotti of the driver who hit the place at 4:06 p.m.

No one was hurt.

The driver said that she was looking at a nearby fruit stand as she approached the building and hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, Mariotti said.

"There was a loud bang and glass flying everywhere," he said, including over a table immediately adjacent to the windows where a couple was too shaken up to continue their meal and had to leave.

Damage is estimated by Mariotti at $30,000.

SooToday.com will post another story when Sandro's is ready to re-open.
