Crash claims life of well-known local man

A Sault Ste. Marie man has died as the result of a two-vehicle accident yesterday near Pellston, Mich. Art Jarrett, 67, devoted much of his life to volunteerism in local sports.

Art Jarrett, 67, devoted much of his life to volunteerism in local sports.

The crash also resulted in injuries to the deceased's wife, Jacqueline Jarrett, 63, who was taken to Northern Michigan Hospital where she was listed in fair condition.

At the time of his passing, Jarrett was president of the Sault Ste. Marie Slo-Pitch Association.

He has also served as a long-time convener for local high school hockey.

Jarrett was further known for his associations with fastball, going back to the days when the sport was played at a highly competitive level at North Street Field.
