Sault Ste. Marie City Council tonight approved a recount of ballots cast in Ward 5 during the November 13 municipal elections.

The recount, expected to take place later this week, was requested by former Ward 5 Councillor Duane Jones, who missed being elected by 20 votes.

Jones got 1,809 votes, compared to 1,829 for Frank Fata and 2,373 for David Celetti.

"It is very important to all of us that given the closeness of the ballot tally that we ensure that the numbers reflect the true wishes of the constituents," Jones said in a letter to City Council.
