A southern Ontario man received a conditional sentence of two years less a day Wednesday for his role in a 2019 death that occurred in the bush south of Wawa.

Demitri Fortomaris will serve the time in the community under house arrest.

Superior Court Justice Michael Varpio imposed the sentence when the 24-year-old Mississauga resident appeared in a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom.

Fortomaris pleaded guilty in July to being an accessory after the fact to murder in the death of a 32-year-old Sudbury man.

Devon Collin's remains were found along Highway 17, south of the Michipicoten River Bridge, in Rabazo Township, on June 29, 2019, the Ontario Provincial Police announced in August of that year.

He had been reported missing June 17, and the investigation following the discovery of the body revealed his death to be a homicide, police said.

Varpio gave Fortomaris credit for 92 days of pre-sentence custody for the time he spent behind bars following his arrest.

Once he completes his sentence, he will be on probation for a year.

A temporary publication ban prohibits reporting any evidence or information presented during the court proceedings.

Another man faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death.
