Coming to a school near you: Hammer time!

Five school improvement projects were outlined last night in a report by Sam Colizza, the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board's manager of plant services.

The projects are bering undertaken with funding from the Good Places to Learn initiative, a school-renewal program announced in 2004 by the McGuinty government,

- St. Paul Catholic School - lighting and plumbing fixture replacement ($190,000)

- St. Mary's College - boiler replacement ($520,000) - completed in February 2008

- St. Mary's Catholic School (Blind River) - asphalt pavement replacement ($85,000)

- St. Joseph Catholic School (Wawa) - asphalt pavement replacement ($100,000)

- St. Mary Catholic School (Massey) - replace doors and associated hardware ($40,000)

Barban Construction has been awarded the contract for the St. Paul Catholic School lighting and plumbing improvements.

Only one estimate was received by the board regarding door replacements at St. Mary, which tendered at twice the proposed budget.

Tenders for the remaining projects are expected to be sent out as early as next week.
