Local supporters of a federal opposition coalition are being asked to rally on Saturday at noon at Clergue Park.

The following news release was issued by organizer Sean Meades:

************************* Community members from across the city will converge in Clergue Park at 12 p.m. noon on Saturday, December 6 in support of the coalition forged by both the NDP and Liberals.

The proposed coalition would usher in a progressive government in Ottawa without forcing the instability of another election. In the last election, the Tories claimed that they received a mandate to govern.

However, they only received approximately 38 percent of the popular vote.

When a minority government is elected, the leading party governs only with the consent and confidence of the House of Commons, representing the majority of the population.

Clearly the Conservatives have lost that confidence.

Meanwhile, the NDP and Liberals garnered over 44 percent of the vote, and have secured the support of the rest of the parties (accounting for over 62 pecent of the popular vote) to replace an arrogant government.

While Harper calls such a move undemocratic, it is in actuality a stronger reflection of the democratic will of the Canadian people.

Saturday will be our opportunity in Sault Ste. Marie to voice our support for a new government that will start taking us in the right direction, a government that is truly representative of the electorate.

Speakers from a broad cross-section of the community will address how a progressive government that reflects the will of the people will bring positive changes to both our community and our country.
