The Co-operative Education School has moved to a spiffy new location, school co-ordinator Mike Gualtieri says.

"This is a better location," Gualtieri tells SooToday.com, referring to the move from the top of Bruce Street Hill, to the S.F. Howe School site at 440 Northland Road.

The following is a news release issued by Gualtieri today:

The Co-operative Education School is moving to the S.F. Howe School building.

Registration for new students is from September 2nd to September 5th. Inquiries can be made at 945-7147.

Mike Gualtieri, the co-ordinator of the Co-op School, says that "the S.F. Howe building is one of the newest buildings in the Algoma District School Board and we are pleased to be locating in a newer, better building.

S.F. Howe is located in the Steelton area not far from downtown and Great Northern Road where most of the Retail Co-operative Education students are placed.

We'll be right behind the Tim Horton's on John Street and St. Georges Avenue.

Established in 1987, the Algoma District School Board designed the Co-operative Education School as an alternative to the traditional high school program.

The Co-op School helps young individuals, 15 to 20 years of age, earn enough high school credits to graduate, go on to postsecondary education, or to enter the job market.

The Co-op School attracts:

- students who are looking for a different approach to education - students who are having difficulty in the traditional high school setting

- students who are considering dropping out

- students who are presently enrolled in another high school and have been referred by an Administrator, Counsellor or Social Worker.

The Co-op School provides the opportunity for all students to earn Ontario Secondary School credits by participating in a co-operative education work placement in the local community.

As well, an Assisted Learning Program is offered to those students unable to participate in the co-op program.

"We are happy to be moving to a better building and we will continue to serve the students of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District by providing a practical mode of learning different from the traditional high school setting," says Gualtieri.

Interested students and parents can call 945-7147 for further information or drop in September 2nd to the 5th during registration week.
