The CN rail bridge over the Sault Ste. Marie Canal is going to be out of commission for at least a month, SooToday.com has learned.

But don't you worry yourself about it, silly Saultites!

That 124-year-old bridge is such an insignificant part of the CN network that the rail giant can't be bothered to return phone calls about it from local officials or media outlets.

Even if you're so deluded to think it's a critical part of our transportation infrastructure that's falling apart, remember that this is a private bridge, okay, and CN-owned Wisconsin Central Ltd. doesn't have to talk to anyone about it because it's just none of your business, k?

Repeated attempts by SooToday.com to contact CN's communications department have not yielded any information.

We have learned, however, that an incident on the bridge on Sunday evening forced its closure.

At about 8:30 p.m. a train was southbound on the bridge when a problem was noticed with the tracks.

The train managed to stop and reverse off the bridge without damage but the bridge has been closed to rail traffic since then, we're told.

You need to stop worrying about stuff like this, Sault Ste. Marie.

Those CN guys are the brightest bulbs in the North American rail-sector chandelier, maintaining their Sault Ste. Marie assets to the highest engineering standards with the finest industrial coatings (see SooToday.com file photo above).

And they're fine corporate citizens, too!

You just know that if one of their century-old bridges is falling down or something, that they're right on top of the situation and they'll be telling us everything that we need to know!

Yes. Yes they will.
